  4. guilt' trials of several prominent Frenchmen
  5. by the Vichy government. The accused included
  6. the former prime ministers Blum and Daladier,
  7. and Gen Gamelin. The occasion turned into a
  8. wrangle over the reasons for French
  9. unpreparedness for war, and at the German
  10. dictator Hitler's instigation, the court was
  11. dissolved. The defendants remained in prison
  12. until released by the Allies 1945.
